Inverclyde Course - August 1976

The object of the course was to train coaches to build lessons geared to the needs of top fencers. One of the first points stressed was that the lesson must always be to the level of the pupil. It was assumed that the pupil already knew the stroke but needed to be able to use the action in a competitive situation. If learning a new stroke, then it was incorporated into the fencer’s game and thus became additional to the game; not, as with many young fencers, taking over the lesson completely.
